Polecam innovation set to continue at BVE2009, London

Polecam press announcement, 2008 December 2
Continuing its long tradition of innovation, Polecam will be introducing four new mobile production tools to the UK video production market on stand C16 at BVE2009 (Earls Court 2, London, February 17-19). All are additions to the Polecam itself which is the world's leading long-reach transportable camera rig.

New: FishFace swim-alone underwater housing
FishFace is a combined underwater head and waterproof HD/SD camera housing for the Polecam rig. At BVE2009, the waterproof housing will be offered for the first time for use with whatever immersion support the camera operator chooses. The FishFace underwater housing comes complete with a clamp and threaded tripod-mounting socket for attachment to the support device. A waterproof gland seals the camera cable at the entry to the housing, eliminating the need to cut and resplice the cable. A waterproof plug and socket are provided for iris control. The complete FishFace head and waterproof housing can be used down to 4 metres on a Polecam rig or to a depth of 10 metres as an independent system. The head has the same fully unrestricted movement as a standard Polecam dry head, including 360 degree pan capability.

UK debut: Polecam 3D Head dual-camera mount
Shown in prototype at IBC2009 and still evolving, the Polecam 3D Head enables two miniature broadcast-quality HD or SD cameras to be mounted side by side. User-adjustable features include the distance between each camera and the left/right forward viewing angles. Output can be captured on a dual channel direct-to-disk video recorder or to a synchronised pair of individual recorders. The Polecam 3D Head has a wide range of applications in 3D drama and documentary production as well as medical and industrial video.

UK debut: Polecam Full Frontal filter attachment system
Full Frontal allows easy attachment of front-mounting lens filters, hoods and accessories to broadcast-quality miniature HD/SD cameras. Eliminating the need to place filters between the lens and the image-splitter, it makes filter adjustment fast and efficient.

UK debut: Dumbell counterweight interface
Polecam's new Dumbell allows mobile camera crews to achieve a substantial reduction in airline baggage charges by leaving their Polecam counterweights at home and sourcing low-cost sport-practise weights at their destination; Dumbell is a mechanical interface which allows these to be attached, adjusted and removed quickly and easily.

Polecam was established in 1998 by extreme sports cameraman/director Steffan Hewitt. While directing a series of windsurfing kit commercials in Hawaii, he needed to obtain close wide-angle front shots of a windsurfer in action, shot from a tracking boat or jet ski. Steffan improvised a rig comprising a miniature camera on a carbon-fibre windsurfing mast. Returning to Britain, he developed a lightweight go-anywhere rig with a remote joystick-controlling a high precision pan and tilt head. Polecam is now supplied in HD and SD versions with range of additional options including underwater and 3D pan/tilt heads. Polecam now is active globally from its base near Bedford, England.

Polecam will be represented at BVE2009 by Steffan Hewitt and Mel Noonan.
