Polecam hires new engineering manager to ramp up production |
| Press Release 14th May 2012 |
UK broadcast equipment firm Polecam has hired a new engineering manager to oversee its increasingly busy production and research and development work.
Experienced engineer Terry Halliday, 41, from Bury St Edmunds, is tasked with ramping up Polecam’s production of the new Canon C300-compatible Long Head as well as its Wire Strut System and Starter Pack and other products.
The Bedford-based company has recently sold its 400th rig (a Starter Pack Plus to DJ Chris Evans’ firm UMTV) and launched the pan/tilt-controlled Long Head at US trade show NAB to widespread acclaim.
Polecam’s Managing Director and the company’s inventor-owner, Steffan Hewitt, said: “We moved to a new, larger base last year with a view to stepping up production and the orders have been flooding in.
“Terry will be overseeing an expanding team which means that all our equipment gets the personal touch and is extremely well thought-through. We’re constantly adapting and improving our existing products based on feedback from cameramen so Terry’s role will be vital.

“We’re also always pushing the boundaries and coming up with new products like our recently-launched Mini Mirror Rig which makes close-up 3D so much more achievable.”
Terry Halliday added: “I’ve spent all my working life in engineering. For the last five years I’ve been in a subcontract electronics manufacturing role, specialising in the subcontract manufacture of wire and cable looms/harnesses, box build and through hole PCBs for the military, medical, security and general industrial sectors.
“I’ve also worked for Vinten/Radamec on the manufacture of robotic camera control solutions so my experience is directly relevant to this role.
“I’m looking forward to getting cracking on current orders as well as having an input on research and design of future products. The more efficiently we can turn around orders, the more cameramen out there will be able to get their hands on Polecam’s superbly-designed rigs and heads.”
Terry has two children and lists his hobbies as snooker, golf and guitar – but with a third child on the way expects there to be less time for these pastimes in future!

Polecam’s Wire Strut System struts its stuff at NAB |
| Press Release 19th April 2012 |
Polecam, the UK's leading lightweight camera firm, is showing its newly-developed Wire Strut System for the first time at NAB at its booth (C5340).
The Wire Strut System, launched in the UK in February this year, is designed to give added stability to the pole while still retaining the crane's trademark flexibility and versatility.
Polecam's cameraman-inventor and Managing Director, Steffan Hewitt, said: "We're excited to be showing our new wire strut system for the first time in the US.
"It has been developed by working closely with experienced UK and US-based Polecam operators and we think it will prove a must-have piece of kit for new and existing Polecam operators.
"The system can be used at any length to give rigidity to the pole – even its full 26ft length – and it will be especially useful in reducing vibrations during rapid movement shots, high cross winds or even shots from moving vehicles."

Polecam shows off new Long Head at NAB – Canon C300 users are loving it! |
|
April 18, 2012
UK camera crane firm Polecam (booth C5340) is showing off its newly-developed Long Head at NAB – it's the first chance US cameramen will have to see the new pan/tilt remote-controlled head which is already proving a hit with Canon C300 users in the UK.
The head was specially designed to meet demand from users of the Canon C300, the Panasonic AF-101 and other cameras of a similar size and weight – it's being shown at the Polecam booth with the C300 during the show.
Polecam's strong but portable lightweight carbon-fibre jibs can be mounted on a standard tripod giving cameramen a reach of up to 26ft with the remote-controlled head of their choice – this includes the Wide Head for D-SLR cameras and the versatile Narrow Head for unlimited panning as well as the Long Head.
Cameraman-inventor Steffan Hewitt, Polecam's Managing Director, said: "Our kit will enable you to get you a massive variety of shots you simply could not achieve so quickly, professionally or cost-effectively by any other system. It's all about increased production value – and it all fits seamlessly together so you can choose the head to suit your existing cameras."
