Argosy to represent Polecam camera cranes in Middle East at CabSat 2012

Argosy, an international supplier of HD broadcast cables and studio infrastructure products, is to represent specialist broadcast camera crane manufacturer Polecam Ltd in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.

Initially Argosy will stock Polecam's successful Starter Pack (PSP), a no-fuss camera crane specifically designed for use with latest-generation compact camcorders and D-SLR heads. This pack will be on display for the first time on the Argosy stand at CabSat 2012 (Stand S3-8, Sheikh Saeed 3 Hall) alongside a collection of Argosy's existing infrastructure products.

'Teaming up with Argosy represents a great opportunity for us to move into a growing market in the Middle East,' said Polecam's managing director Steffan Hewitt. 'We've had a steady stream of enquiries from the region and our brand is growing consistently in the Middle East. We're delighted to team up with Argosy as they have a wealth of knowledge and understanding of the broadcast community in this region,' added Hewitt.

Polecam's established single-operator cranes are used by broadcasters and film makers for everything from nature documentaries to extreme sports coverage. Most recently the BBC took the Polecam crane and underwater Fishface submersible housing to the Arctic as part of the kit they used for filming the recent BBC1 Frozen Planet series.

Hewitt continued, 'The full Polecam rig delivers the production values of a typical jib but it's far less bulky - in fact it can squeeze into some pretty tight spots. It's also an easy to use and lightweight system. The smaller, entry-level Starter Pack is perfect for film makers who want great quality footage using compact cameras for programme production.'

Polecam gets close and personal at Bass Rock

See Polecam on the Video Cine Import stand at Broadcast 2011, Madrid, 25-28 October

Kempston, England, 20 October 2011: At the invitation of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds, cameraman and Polecam founder Steffan Hewitt recently headed north to film gannets at Bass Rock in the Firth of Forth.

The project was planned to include a shoot on the island itself as the RSPB team (Toby Hough and Robin Hill) were keen to get close and personal with thousands of nesting gannets under the watchful eye of Maggie Sheddan from the Scottish Seabird Centre in North Berwick.

“Being much lighter in weight than traditional camera cranes of comparable reach, the Polecam system proved easy to transport even on and off a small fishing boat ('Fisher Lassie' skippered by Gordon Easingwoood) bouncing up and down in the North Sea swell,” Steffan explains. “Once safely ashore we had to hike the equipment up steep steps, through the disused ruins of an old prison and onward to an open area full of nesting gannets whilst all the time running the gauntlet with hoards of dive-bombing gulls.”

Polecam to demonstrate new IndiePOV 2/3 inch CMOS camera at IBC2011

See Polecam on Stand 10.C49 at IBC2011 Amsterdam, 9-13 September

Kempston, England, 2 September 2011:

The IndiePOV, a major advance in ultra-compact cameras, will be introduced on the Polecam stand (10.C49) at IBC2011.

Designed and built by Vienna-based Indiecam GmbH, the IndiePOV incorporates a high-grade 2/3 inch CMOS imager and delivers 1080p HDTV at up to 30 frames per second in 10 bit uncompressed 4:2:2 or RAW modes. The camera measures only 40 x 40 x 100 millimetres and weighs just 170 grammes.

“The IndiePOV is one of the finest miniature cameras ever brought to market and is ideal for use across our entire range of portable support systems,” comments Polecam Managing Director Steffan Hewitt. “It is also the perfect complement to the Polecam Wide and Narrow motorised pan/tilt heads which we will also be launching at IBC.

“The excellent picture quality of the IndiePOV makes it ideal for programme-makers at a time when broadcasters are becoming increasingly keen to deliver the best possible images to HDTV audiences. It can be used in single-camera, 3D and multi-camera modes. The build quality is also superb and the value for money nothing short of breathtaking. If you are coming to IBC to see the latest cameras, this is one to put at the head of your list.”

“With a native 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution and 5 micron pixel size, the IndiePOV can be configured to output at 23.98, 24, 24.98, 25, 29.97 or 30 frames per second, progressive scan,” details Polecam Sales & Marketing Manager Jeremy Curtis. “The standard model has a C-mount 25 millimetre lens attachment with adjustable back-focus. We can also supply a PL-mounting version if required. The camera head includes tri-level sync input, 3G-SDI, and RS-484 optical-isolated digital in/out. No external control unit is required. Power consumption is 2.7 watts average from a 7 to 24 volt direct-current source. A universal mains adapter is included."

The IndiePOV will be demonstrated as part of a total production system during IBC2011 by Steffan Hewitt, Jeremy Curtis, Rob Prowse and Alix Francis from Polecam; Raphael Barth, Martin Reinhart and Matthias Schellander from Indiecam; and Chris Taber, one of the world’s most experienced 2D/3D Polecam owner/operators.
