| Polecam's unique camera crane in Bedlam shoot |
|
Picture the scene - A dead girl in a swimsuit floats on the surface of a brightly lit swimming pool, blood washing around her cut wrists. The camera sits on the surface, half showing the body and face beneath, half the deserted poolside. A young couple burst through the doors at the far end, and, seeing their friend in the water the man dives in and splashes forward to collect her in his arms. The camera lifts and spins as he realizes she is dead and screams his anguish to the ceiling. End of scene with camera looking straight down on the bloody pair.
"Bedlam" is a Ghost Drama made for Sky Living in Manchester, England, shot mainly on Arri Alexa's but for the first time Tom Paterson of Forager Films Ltd, Polecam's most Northerly UK based owner operator, was requested to shoot crane sequences using the remarkable Fish Face underwater head. Tracking swimmers, from poolside. both in and out of the water, using a flatbed dolly, he was able to compliment the images from the other cameras whilst providing angles that would not be possible with any other camera system. Lenses were mainly 8 and 4mm but occasionally we needed the 2.8 under water as the magnification factor became evident. Tom Paterson |
