Wedding celebrations vary between cultures but increasingly that celebration has grown in size and stature to the point where huge amounts can be spent on what is generally regarded as a once in a lifetime event. Those involved will want to have a record of it, and in addition to the photo album the wedding video has grown in stature too, some approaching Hollywood productions.
Hollywood productions often use camera cranes to produce those memorable tracking shots, and now some are using Polecam in the same way to raise the production level of the wedding video.
As prime examples, here are two British companies leading the field and doing just that.
This is a company located in West London offering wedding stills and videos. Iq Dhutti, one of the partners said "We have always striven to be the best in what we do. We decided to try using a crane to raise production values – we hired in a Jimmy Jib to use on some of our Asian weddings. Some of these are big events now. We found that it didn't work for a number of reasons. It is very large and intrusive, and once it's in and assembled, it stays there. The shots you can get are limited, and will end up being repeated. We felt that the return wasn't worth the outlay."
"We had seen Polecam at video shows, and we thought that it could probably give us the solution we were after, but it was a big step for us to take. As it's turned out it was a very good decision and it's a great success for our business. Our clients love the videos we are now able to produce with Polecam. It is so popular with our clients that as well as using our own Polecam we have had to hire in a Polecam owner operator to satisfy demand."

Filmatography has offices and studios in London and Dubai. Peter Rear is the CEO: "In the Gulf States, some of the wedding celebrations are huge productions, with several hundred if not thousands of guests, and so those concerned want to have the best possible record of the event."
As well as providing the very highest standard of photography for his clients, he has also introduced video coverage at a level approaching cinematography, and at first experimented by using locally rented Jimmy Jib cranes.
"Polecam is an evolution of a crane, but because it is more discreet, it can capture things in a natural way. It's more mobile, so our move towards the cinematic has prompted the use of cranes, and the move from cranes to Polecam is to be more discreet and much more mobile."
"I think Polecam is a superb creative tool. The thing that has really impressed me is its mobility and flexibility – the fact that you can use it on a harness as well as on a tripod and dolly to move it around quickly."
"Our reputation keeps on growing and through our cinematic imagery we have been chosen to do commercials and product launches outside the wedding industry. Polecam has helped us to raise our production values even higher than before."
Filmatography used four photographers, a Polecam, 2 Jimmy Jibs, 5 remote cameras and a broadcast van parked outside.
A magical setting, "Lily of the Valley", created by Design Lab Events, giving a true sense of wonderland. Rich images of woodlands, in majestic hues of purple, dressed the walls and created a boundless feel to engulf the room of this event.
An amazing event hosted at Jumeirah Madinat in which a pre-shoot film created by Filmatography was shown just before the bridal entrance on twenty eight 9m floor to ceiling height LED screens in 360 degrees all around the arena and guests. Wedding planned by Design Lab Events.
